The Northern Ponca Housing Authority is a tribally created Housing Authority under Tribal Ordinance. In January 1993, the Housing Authority board was appointed by the Tribal Council thus the beginning of NPHA. Policies and procedures were established prior to applying for grants. |

As of April 2008, the Northern Ponca Housing Authority owns 192 units. The NPHA has 10 tax credit homes in Omaha. The current rental occupancy rate is 98%. The NPHA has low-income housing open to the community; they own and operate units in Omaha, Bellevue, Lincoln, Norfolk, Creighton, Columbus, and Niobrara, NE, as well as Wagner, SD, and Sioux City, and Council Bluffs, IA. The NPHA has assisted over 40 families with purchasing their own homes through down payment assistance. NPHA has a staff of 14. These staff members run programs, work in maintenance, resident counseling, home buyer counseling, accounting, day to day rental issues, and public relations, as well as the many administrative and secretarial duties provided by the Housing Authority. The goal of the Northern Ponca Housing Authority is to provide safe, sanitary, and affordable housing for the Ponca People, as well as other Native Americans . |
